Winifred E. Cannon is engaged in the general practice of law at the Cannon Law Group, PLLC wherein she counsels and represents individuals and small businesses in state and federal courts. In addition to her work as an Attorney she is a City of Dallas official serving a second term on the Board of Adjustments (a quasi-judicial body) that presides over special exceptions and variances hearings. Ms. Cannon, as a Special Commissioner, also presides over condemnation and eminent domain proceedings for Dallas County and the City of Dallas. She is a former Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Dallas and also a former Adjunct Professor teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Business Law, Risk Management, Ethics and Employment Law. She recently taught Texas and American Government courses at a local community college.
Cannon holds a B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in Government & Politics and an M.A. (Master of Arts) in International Relations from the University of Maryland. Her law degrees, Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) were obtained from the Antioch School of Law and Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law respectively. She is admitted to the State Bars of Texas, Maryland and West Virginia, various federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. She is Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the J.L. Turner Legal Association; former chair of the Mentoring Committee for J.L. Turner Legal Association; Member Public Forum Committee of Dallas Bar Association; Member Veterans and Military Section, State Bar of Texas; Member Pro Bono Bar State Bar of Texas; State Chair for Social Action and Public Policy for Zeta Phi Beta, Member of Kappa Zeta Chapter; Organizer of Military and Veteran’s Ministry at the Potter’s House Church of Dallas; and Soprano on the Bishop’s Choir.
Cannon considers herself as an advocate of hope, inspiration and change. She continually invests in individuals, encouraging each to realize their dreams with the expectation that each will reach their full potential.
