COMMISSIONER JOHN WILEY PRICE TO SPEAK AT JLTLA MAY MONTHLY MEETING: MAY 8, 2008
JLTLA will hold it's May meeting at 6pm on Thursday May 8, 2008 at the Belo Mansion located at 2101 Ross Ave.
in downtown Dallas at the corner of Ross and Pearl Street. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price will
be our guest speaker.
 
At the May meeting, JLTLA members will be asked to vote on the criteria for, and to nominate and vote for the 
persons to receive JLTLA awards to be presented at the JLTLA Thurgood Marshall Awards Luncheon. The awards 
to be considered are:The L.A. Bedford Distinguished Jurist Award; The C.B. Bunkley Community Service Award; 
and the newly created JLTLA Committed Mentor Award.  
 

 
JUDGE CATHARINA HAYNES SEEKS LAW CLERKS: 
The Honorable Catharina Haynes, of Dallas, Texas, was just appointed to the 5th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. 
Judge Haynes is currently seeking applicants for positions as law clerks.  These positions are open to practicing 
attorneys as well as law students that are graduating in 2008.  First and second year law students are currently 
ineligible for these clerkships.
 
Each applicant must meet the following criteria:(1)  Very high academics;(2)  Very high commitment to 
professionalism and ethics; and (3)  Immediate availability. If you are interested, please submit a cover letter, 
resume, and transcript, by hand delivery, ASAP, to Catharina Haynes, U.S. Courts, 1100 Commerce Street, 
Room 1452, Dallas , Texas 75242.

EXPERIENCE EXCHANGE MENTORSHIP DINNER: MAY 13, 2008
The Experience Exchange Mentoring Dinner:"20 Years in 2 Hours" is being presented by the Dallas Bar 
Association's Minority Participation Committee. The dinner will be held Tuesday May 13, 2008 at the Belo Mansion 
from 6 to 8pm. The Experience Exchange is intended to bring senior and junior attorneys together to share 
stories about the different ways minority attorneys in Dallas have made their success.  It is hoped that the 
sharing of ideas and experiences will further the growth and careers of younger attorneys and continue to build 
relationships within the minority legal community.  Attorneys will be assigned to two tables based on the 
information provided in the registration form, one for dinner and one for dessert.  Each table will discuss 
prearranged questions and/or personal questions as determined by you. The cost is $20 for attorneys and $10 
for law students, the cost includes the parking at the Belo. Registration forms are due May 9, 2008. For

THE INAUGURAL MULTICULTURAL TRIFECTA NETWORKING EVENT: MAY 22, 2008
JLTLA is co-hosting a networking mixer with the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, NSHMBA, NBMBAA, ALPFA, 
NABA, and HBA on Thursday May 22, 2008 from 6-9pm at Metro Grill, located at 75 Central at Knox St.
There will be FREE appetizers, Drink specials, networking... old school music, networking, salsa/merengue, 
more networking... and FREE salsa lessons! Please come join in the fun as we do some multicultural networking.
 

JLTLA THURGOOD MARSHALL AWARDS LUNCHEON: JUNE 18, 2008
The Thurgood Marshall Awards Luncheon will be held at Noon on June 18, 2008, at the Belo Mansion located at 2101 Ross
Avenue. JLTLA will be presenting the follwoing awards at the luncheon:The L.A. Bedford Distinguished Jurist Award;
The C.B. Bunkley Community Service Award; and The newly created Committed Mentor Award. Larry D. Thompson,
Senior Vice President Government Affairs, General Counsel & Secretary for PepsiCo, Inc., will be giving the keynote

JLTLA 2008 Corresponding Secretary, Sheri D. Crosby, was just awarded the 2008 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award
by the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers ("DAYL"). The award was presented to Sheri at the Dallas Bar Association's
2008 Law Day Luncheon held on May 2, 2008, at the Belo Mansion. Sheri joins Tonya Parker in 2006, and Nick Pittman
in 1999, as JLTLA members who have also won this prestigious DAYL award. Congratulations Sheri!!
 
Former JLTLA President and Former DBA President, Rhonda Hunter, is being honored at the 15th Annual Women 
of Spirit Awards Celebration to be held in Dallas on May 22, 2008, 6:30 p.m. at the Women’s Museum located in 
Fair Park. Congratulations Rhonda on this well deserved honor!
